Bentley Bentayga Transfer from Riga to a Private Terminal in Geneva
Car Transfers in Europe – Part 1
Transporting a car to another European country does not always require a car transporter or trailer. If the vehicle is in good technical condition, registered for road use and the customer accepts the additional mileage accumulated during the journey, it can be driven to its destination under its own power with a carefully planned route and an assigned driver.
For this project, Diamond Connected organised the transfer of a Bentley Bentayga from Riga to Geneva. The route passed through Krakow, Zakopane, Bratislava and Innsbruck, while the exact destination was the Jet Aviation underground car park at the private terminal at Geneva Airport. Diamond Connected was responsible for the entire journey plan: route and route sections, hotels, toll roads, fuel stops and access to the specified handover location.

The Customer’s Requirement
The customer needed the Bentley Bentayga transported from Riga to a precisely specified location at Geneva Airport. This was not simply a journey from one city to another: a logical route through several countries had to be created, divided into well-planned sections and all practical aspects of the journey had to be anticipated in advance.
The customer entrusted Diamond Connected not only with transporting the vehicle, but also with organising the entire journey. This included hotel planning, evaluating toll roads and other road charges required along the route, fuel stops, rest periods and precise access to the destination.
This approach gives the customer one point of contact and one coordinated plan for the entire project. There is no need to find a driver separately, compare road charges in different countries, book accommodation or research access to the handover location.
What Does a Car Transfer Under Its Own Power Mean?
With this type of service, the vehicle is not loaded onto a car transporter or enclosed trailer. Instead, it travels to its destination under its own power on public roads, while Diamond Connected organises the driver and all logistics related to the journey.
This solution can be suitable for a vehicle that is in good technical condition and properly prepared for road use, provided that the customer accepts the additional mileage accumulated during the journey and wants direct delivery from the starting address to a specific destination. Before each transfer, the vehicle’s status, documents, insurance conditions, route and handover procedure must be assessed individually.
Why Does a Journey Like This Require a Complete Route Plan?
A journey from Riga to Geneva crosses several countries and different types of roads. It is not enough simply to enter the destination into a navigation system – the following must be planned in advance:
- a sensible division of the route into driving sections;
- accommodation and access to hotels with the specific vehicle;
- fuel stops;
- toll roads, vignettes and other road charges applicable to the route;
- the potential impact of winter conditions on the journey;
- rest breaks and sufficient time reserves;
- precise access to the destination area and the vehicle handover location.
Diamond Connected combined this information into one complete journey plan, ensuring that the driver knew the next stop and the customer had one responsible contact throughout the entire transfer.
Route and Transfer Process
1. Starting at the Diamond Connected Office in Riga
The Bentley Bentayga journey began in Riga at the Diamond Connected office. From there, the vehicle travelled towards Poland as the first section of the route. Before departure, not only the main route but also the plans for the following sections, accommodation, fuel and toll roads had been prepared.
2. Riga – Krakow – Zakopane
After stopping in Krakow, the route continued to Zakopane. During this section, the transfer team encountered road and weather conditions typical of winter. It was therefore important to maintain flexibility when planning the journey and to assess each following section according to the actual conditions along the route.

3. From Zakopane Towards Slovakia
From Zakopane, the journey continued towards Slovakia and then on to Bratislava. A multi-country transfer requires the driver to have timely information about the next route section, road charges, fuel stops and planned rest periods.

4. Bratislava – Innsbruck
After Bratislava, the route continued through Austria to Innsbruck. DCD had planned the accommodation in advance so that the driving sections were manageable and appropriate rest periods were included for the driver.

5. Innsbruck – Geneva
The final section led from Innsbruck to Geneva. Since the delivery location was not an ordinary public address but the Jet Aviation underground car park at the private terminal at Geneva Airport, access to the destination had to be planned just as precisely as the international route itself.
The Bentley Bentayga was delivered to the previously agreed parking location, completing the transfer from Riga to Geneva.

The Result
The Bentley Bentayga was successfully delivered from Riga to the customer’s specified location at Geneva Airport. Diamond Connected organised the complete transfer process: planning the route through Krakow, Zakopane, Bratislava and Innsbruck, arranging hotels, fuel and toll roads, and coordinating access to the exact destination.
For the customer, this meant one coordinated service and one point of contact throughout the journey. This full-service approach is at the heart of Diamond Connected’s car transfer service – not simply driving the vehicle, but managing the entire journey from the collection address to the handover location.

When Should You Choose a Self-Drive Transfer and When a Car Transporter?
A self-drive transfer may be suitable when:
- the vehicle is in good technical condition and prepared for road use;
- the customer accepts the additional mileage accumulated during the journey;
- direct delivery from one address to another is required;
- flexible route or handover arrangements are important;
- the project also involves onward travel or relocation to another country.
A car transporter or enclosed trailer may be more suitable when:
- avoiding additional mileage is important to the customer;
- the vehicle is not registered or is not roadworthy;
- the vehicle should not be exposed to road dirt and weather conditions;
- the vehicle’s specifications require loading and transportation rather than being driven under its own power.
Diamond Connected evaluates the most suitable solution individually, taking into account the specific vehicle, route, schedule and customer requirements.
What Can Diamond Connected Include in a Car Transfer?
Depending on the project, the service can include:
- driver and handover coordination;
- route and alternative route planning;
- accommodation selection and booking;
- fuel stop planning;
- toll road, vignette and other road payment arrangements;
- communication with contacts at the collection and destination locations;
- access planning for airports, ports, terminals or other specific handover locations;
- combining road transport with a ferry or Ro-Ro vessel.
What Information Should You Provide for a Price Calculation?
To prepare a suitable quotation for the specific vehicle and route, please provide:
- vehicle make, model and basic information;
- exact collection address;
- exact delivery address or terminal;
- preferred collection and delivery time;
- information on whether the vehicle is in good technical condition, registered and ready to be driven;
- whether the customer accepts the additional mileage accumulated during the journey;
- contact details for both ends of the route;
- information about any special access or handover requirements;
- whether the project also includes a ferry or Ro-Ro vessel section.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a self-drive car transfer?
It is a service in which the vehicle is not transported on a car transporter or trailer but is driven to its destination on public roads by an assigned driver. Diamond Connected can organise the driver, route, hotels, fuel, road charges and handover.
What does Diamond Connected organise during this type of transfer?
The service is tailored to each individual project. It can include driver coordination, route planning, accommodation, fuel stops, toll roads, communication with handover contacts and access to specific destinations.
Is a self-drive transfer suitable for every vehicle?
No. The vehicle must be suitable for road use, and its technical condition, documents, insurance conditions, tyres, route and the customer’s requirements must be assessed before the journey. Each project is evaluated individually.
How are the costs of a car transfer calculated?
The cost is influenced by the route, distance, driver’s work, fuel, toll roads, accommodation, vehicle specifications, required timing and access to the handover location. If the project includes a ferry or Ro-Ro section, the relevant sea transport costs are also taken into account.
When is a car transporter or enclosed trailer a better option?
This type of transport may be more suitable when additional mileage is not acceptable, the vehicle is not roadworthy or the customer wants to protect the vehicle from public roads and weather conditions. Diamond Connected can compare the available options for the specific route.
Can a self-drive transfer be combined with a Ro-Ro vessel?
Yes. The vehicle can be driven by road to a port and the onward transportation can then be organised using a Ro-Ro vessel. This type of combined solution can be useful for routes to islands, including Cyprus.
