Ducati XDiavel Transport from Germany to Latvia

When transporting a valuable motorcycle, delivery time is not the only important factor. Equally important are documenting the motorcycle’s condition before loading, choosing suitable transport, and securing the motorcycle properly to prevent damage to the bodywork, controls or suspension during transit.

For this project, Diamond Connected organised the transport of a Ducati XDiavel from Stuhr, Germany, to Jūrmala, Latvia. The customer did not have to travel to Germany, arrange the return journey or coordinate transport details with several different parties – the entire collection and delivery process was coordinated by one logistics partner.

The Customer’s Requirement

The task was to transport a Ducati XDiavel from Germany to Latvia while protecting the motorcycle from weather conditions and movement during transit.

The Ducati XDiavel is a low and wide sport cruiser motorcycle with distinctive painted surfaces, an exposed frame design and a wide rear tyre. This means that the loading and securing method must be adapted to the specific motorcycle. Straps must not come into contact with painted surfaces, cables or other easily damaged components.

What Needs to Be Considered When Transporting a Motorcycle?

A motorcycle is not ordinary palletised cargo. Incorrectly selected securing points or excessive strap tension can damage the bodywork, controls or suspension. At the same time, insufficient securing can allow the motorcycle to move during braking, acceleration and cornering.

The key tasks in this project included:

• coordinating motorcycle collection in Germany with the designated contact person;
• checking and documenting the motorcycle’s condition before loading;
• using a loading and securing solution suitable for motorcycles;
• protecting painted surfaces and control components from contact with securing equipment;
• transporting the motorcycle in an enclosed vehicle;
• providing the customer with a single point of contact throughout the transportation process.

The Transportation Solution

1. Coordinating Collection in Germany

Before the vehicle arrived, the exact collection location, contact person and motorcycle availability were confirmed. This preparation is particularly important when collecting a motorcycle from a private seller or dealer where collection may only be possible at a specific time.

2. Documenting the Motorcycle’s Condition

Before loading, the motorcycle’s visual condition is checked and documented with photographs. This allows the customer to verify the motorcycle’s condition at the time of collection and provides a clear handover process at the destination.

3. Loading and Securing

The Ducati XDiavel was loaded into an enclosed vehicle equipped for motorcycle transportation and secured using a specialised motorcycle securing system. The securing points are selected to keep the motorcycle stable while ensuring that the straps do not come into contact with painted bodywork or other vulnerable components.

Proper securing is not simply a matter of tightening the straps as much as possible. The motorcycle’s construction, weight, suspension and potential movement throughout the journey must all be taken into account.

4. Enclosed Transport to Latvia

Enclosed transport protects the motorcycle from rain, road dirt, stones and unwanted external access. This is particularly important when transporting valuable, nearly new or meticulously maintained motorcycles.

5. Delivery and Handover

After arriving in Latvia, the motorcycle was unloaded and visually inspected again. The attached video shows the Ducati XDiavel after delivery – the motorcycle has retained its visual condition and is ready to be handed over to the customer.
